The Power of the Spoken Word

Genesis 1:

  1. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
  2. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
  3. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Job 22:.

  1. Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
  2. Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

  1. Thus saith the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.

Jeremiah 33:

  1. Thus saith the Lord the maker thereof, the Lord that formed it, to establish it; the Lord is his name;
  2. Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Matthew 7:

  1. Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
  2. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
  3. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
  4. Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
  5. If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Matthew 8:

  1. When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
  1. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
  2. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.
  3. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
  4. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
  1. So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.
  2. And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.

Matthew 10:

  1. And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
  1. Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

Matthew 12:

  1. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
  2. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Matthew 13:

  1. Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
  2. But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
  3. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
  4. These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

Matthew 16:

  1. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Matthew 17:

  1. And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.
  2. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
  3. And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
  4. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Matthew 18:

  1. Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
  2. Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
  3. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Matthew 21:

  1. And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.
  2. And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!
  3. Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
  4. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Matthew 26:

  1. Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
  2. Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
  3. But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

John 14:

  1. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
  2. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
  3. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

John 15:

  1. I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
  2. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
  3. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
  4. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
  5. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
  6. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
  7. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
  8. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

Mark 1:

  1. And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
  2. And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.
  3. And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.

  3. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
  4. And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
  5. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
  6. And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

Mark 11:

  1. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
  2. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

James 1:

  1. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
  2. For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
  3. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

James 3:

  1. My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
  2. For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
  3. Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.
  4. Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.
  5. Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
  6. And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
  7. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
  8. But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
  9. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.
  10. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
  11. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
  12. Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

James 5:

  1. Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
  2. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
  3. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
  4. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
  5. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
  6. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

2 Timothy 2:

  1. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
  2. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

Revelation 5:

  1. And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.

Revelation 14:

  1. And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads.
  2. And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps:
  3. And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
  4. These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
  5. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.

Revelation 19:

  1. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
  2. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.
